Odessa Deaton Johnson, 84, of Roanoke Rapids died Thursday, May 14, 2009 at Guardian Care in Roanoke Rapids.

Mrs. Johnson was a native of Rockingham, NC, the daughter of the late Noah Gaston Deaton and Lannie Mae Beane Deaton.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Kosanke; a son, Bobby Hopkins; six sisters, Bertha Blake, Florence Godwin, Edith Barton, Johnnie Mae Ford, Frances McDonald, and Arlene Deaton; five brothers, Willie Deaton, Walter Deaton, Odell Deaton, Floyd Deaton, and Sherman Deaton.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by a daughter, Teressa Cutshaw; a faithful and loving sister, Madeline D. Lewis; ten grandchildren; two special nieces, Linda Odom and her husband, Dennis, of Roanoke Rapids and Tina Carr and her husband, David, of Halifax, and several other nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Askew Funeral & Cremation Services, which is handling the arrangements, with Minister Dale Morris officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
